The young man was placed under preliminary arrest for 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the General Inspectorate of Police of Moldova (IGP) published statistics on road accidents in the country for the first quarter of 2025. In the first three months of the new year, 371 accidents were recorded on Moldovan roads, which is the lowest figure in the last decade. 34 people died in road accidents this year (in the first quarter of 2024, there were 41 fatalities). Another 424 people were injured.<\/p>\n<p>According to IGP data, the highest number of accidents (544) and the highest number of injured people (633) were recorded in January-March 2017, while the highest number of road traffic fatalities were recorded in 2016, 2018 and 2020, which claimed 63 lives each.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReducing the number of road accidents and their consequences is a priority for the police. This is why we organize, in partnership with other public institutions, campaigns on road safety and accident prevention, which aim to increase knowledge and compliance with traffic rules, as well as to raise awareness of the dangers faced by those who violate traffic rules,\u201d said IGP press secretary Oxana Toderi\u021ba.<\/p>\n<p>Let us recall that on March 19, 2025, the Government of the Republic of Moldova approved a bill on drawing up police reports in digital format. To implement the project, law enforcement officers will be given tablets and electronic pens so that paper protocols can be replaced with electronic ones over time. At the same time, a simple electronic signature will have the same legal force as a handwritten one. The authorities believe that replacing paper protocols with digital ones will significantly reduce the time it takes to draw them up, reduce administrative costs and make the entire document flow more efficient and transparent.<\/p>\n<p>We also previously reported on the arrest of seven Moldovan citizens by Romanian police in early February this year on suspicion of fraud.
